My wife and I were excited to announce we were going to be having baby #3, but God seems to have had another plan and has already invited her/him to live with Him in heaven.  This is bittersweet for Kim and I as we were really excited to have another bundle of joy, but trust fully in God and His plan.

For years I did everything under MJFDesigns. While I still own and operate MJF Designs, it is more of a hobby and no longer fully depicts who I am online.

This blog [Jobysblog.com] started out to be a place for me to come to post my feelings about whatever I wanted. Never really caring if anyone were to read it. But over the past few months I have been thinking about what I want to be when I grow up and will soon be steering this blog toward my new personal brand.

What brand? The brand is BaldFatGuy. Here is why:

Joby’s Blog has always touted the tag line ‘Blog of a Bald Fat Guy.’  I picked up the nickname when working with the youth of my church. I remember sitting in class talking with them one Sunday morning when I began to feel that they were not really paying much attention. I recall saying something like ‘Hey The Bald Fat Guy did not write this stuff God did…’ or something like that… They chuckled a little and from then on, I started referring to myself as BfG on Xanga etc (yeah I had one). Soon it became my handle on every new site I signed up for…

So for now, please pardon the dust and occasional wonkiness you will encounter as I change, re-change, and change things around here over the next short while.

I have been busy with a couple odds and ends, but mostly Gift Cards World.

After purchasing a new back-end script, I spend most of my evenings changing the files to use my design. This has causes a bit of a slow down for me to learn a little more about JavaScript and CSS.

I tend to learn as I go. I prefer to DO something than to read about how to do it.

Anyway, I plan to launch the site at the end of this month.

I was glad to see 2011 come in, but so glad to get to bed just after the ball fell

The reason is, I wanted to be up early. I had a site to launch  today and I did not want to snoozing the day away.

So here is the deal. I am starting an auction site for Gift Cards. The site is a ‘penny auction’ site.

Basically I will place a gift card up for auction. The starting price of the auctions will be $0.00. Each time a person places a bid on the price will increase by a set amount and the time remaining will increase by a number of seconds.

Bids are purchased in packs and are used one at a time. Each time you bid on an item, your bid count drops.

For the launch on 1-1-11 I have made some slight changes to the normal operation of things. I wanted the launch to be a bit more challenging. I have placed 4 $100.00 ‘Your Choice’ auctions up. Each auction is worth $100.00. This means you can mix and match the cards you receive as long as the total worth of the cards is $100.00.

The first 10 to sign up and purchase a bid pack will be placed into a random drawing to receive a $50.00 card of your choice.

Bidding on the 4 $100.00 ‘Your Choice’ auctions will begin at 8:00am EST Janurary 1, 2011 and will run until bidding ends (an additional 30 seconds is added to the remaining time [per bid.]) At 1:00PM EST we will choose the winner of the $50.00 ‘Your Choice’ card.

All I said in reply was that I am having fun.

I have put some thought into the question and have come up with the following reasons.

• I really am having fun
• I get to tell other people about some great places
• I have learned about some great opportunities
• I have put my name in some peoples heads
• I have won some free swag

Let me elaborate:

I really am having fun – I have met (online and in real time) some pretty cool people. People who do some pretty awesome stuff in the world of Social Networking. People who have every day businesses.

I get to tell other people about some great places – Bocktown Beer and Grill, The Milk Shake Factory, Pizza Sola, Fat Heads… the list goes on… these are just a few of the places I have visited and tweeted about. Followed on Twitter. Friended/Liked on Facebook etc.

I have learned about some great opportunities – One opportunity is the chance to get a job wearing T-Shirts for an entire year via iWearYourShirt.com – while this is not an opportunity I can take advantage of, I can help some of the folks I have met via Social Media pursue their dreams to get the job (Laura Carter and Joshua Arnao.)

I have put my name in some peoples heads – This point may only matter to me, but I am making myself known to the people behind the things I am promoting. I have even had some one on one meetings with certain people to give them a real world view of their marketing efforts. Even more fun for me, is hearing my name used and remembered and even chuckled at by the people behind these things I am promoting. NO, I have not made a penny for the things I have done (YET) but I am enjoying myself, and maybe when the time comes these people will think of me when choosing to hire some part time help doing what I already love to do… #justsayin!

I have won some free swag – I have won free food, free t-shirts, and some other stuff that I won’t know what it is until it gets here… #NissanJUKE.

So some may think I am wasting my time or offending my Twitter followers, but I don’t believe that to be the case. Twitter is designed for what I am doing. Twitter’s networking options are incomparable. The number of like-minded followers that I have picked up is immeasurable to the number of people that may have stopped following me.

This has been a great experience for me.
