That is what this blog is for me, a place to say what is on my mind. In my words. When I feel like it.

Lately I have been pretty quiet. Mostly because I have been working on some web sites that I will be announcing in the near future, but also, because since March of this year, I have been struggling with some of the most intense headaches I have ever experienced in my lifetime. WOW that’s a long sentence!!!

I have had Dr visits, MRI’s (that only took 8 months to get!), and medications to determine their cause.

Bottom line, they are being caused by degeneration in my C4 thru C6 vertebrae, pinching of a nerve, and tension of the muscles that surround my head (feels like I have had my hair put in a ponytail by a sadist.)

My Neurologist and I agree that surgery is not an option at this point. Him because he does not feel it necessary. Me because I simply don’t want cut open at this point.

For the most part, we have tamed them down to a dull pain and slight pressure in and around my eyes. Today is not one of those days. It seems that the colder it is outside, the worse it gets. Today (as I type this) I am sitting in my ‘man cave’ in the silence of the morning waiting for my medicine to kick in. I took the medicine that works the best, but sadly it puts me to sleep, so I had to miss yet ANOTHER day of work. Oh, how I long for the time when we can start working from home again.

Quite a few things have happened in those 21 days.

My Mo has come in quite nicely as you can see in a couple of places
- Movember in the menu bar (slacking there too sorry)

I have also won quite a bit of swag (more on that later)

Today starts a bit of vacation for me, but my lovely bride has pretty much filled every minute with “Honey-Do’s” so I am not even sure it is a vacation

It is just nice not to have to drive 40+ miles each way for the next week     .^_^.

Friday 3/12
We headed south to Moundsville to Grand Vue Park. (grandvuepark.com) for the Winter Happening for Christian Endeavour (CE).

We stayed there through Sunday morning. See wvce.info for somewhat of an update. I need to post more there

Sunday 3/14
Sunday was my beautiful brides birthday so we went to Smokey Bones in Robinson PA for dinner. Talk about yummy!

Sunday night is when things started to go awry…

It was the opening night of the Hancock County Crusade.

Nick was asked to sing. He is only 9 so that is a great honor for him. I played guitar for him while he sang City on our knees by TobyMac.

I was feeling quite sinusy but could not let my boy down.

Monday 3/15
On Monday I woke up for work with a headache so strong I could not tollerate light so I stayed home from work. I ended up sleeping the majority of the day.

It was also my late brother Bobbys birthday. He would have been 39.

Tuesday 3/16
Not much different than Monday. Stayed home with the headache.

Wednesday 3/17
My 2yr Anniversary at US Steel, but I was stuck at home with the headache only this time it was accompanied by nausea. Blah!!!

Thursday 3/18
One more day at home but with a trip to the doctor. He said the headache was not sinus but more tension caused by something muscular or even a kink in my neck. He sent me to have a CT Scan for safety sake. He also prescribed me two medicines. One for nightly use and one to take when/if I get another headache. I was also told to saty home one moe day to test the affects of the nightly pill.

Friday 3/19
I woke feelling pretty well. The headache was still around, but not nearly as bad. We also had movie night at the church for 3rd grade and up.

Saturday 3/20
The headache was still hanging about. Just enough for me to know it was there. I helped a buddy with his computer. The wife and I decided to head to her grandmothers for the weekend. She is not doing well. Gramma has cancer. Her health has been deminishing slowly.

That brings us to today.
We ate breakfast at the hotel and drove over to Grammas house. After a couple hours, I brought out younges son and my niece back to the hotel to swim for a little while. Then we drove back to Grammas. We are about to pack up and head on home to get ready for the Easter egg hunt for CE.

Work is a total drag. The situation at church is absolutely mind boggling. I have not had time to code in ages and this weekend is no different!

On the bright side, I did get to post this from my new iPhone app for wordpress!

This has opened the door to my department allowing us to work from home one day a week.

I enjoy this as it gives me a lot of time to get some trivial things accomplished. I tend to get double the work done in 1/2 the time. Today is a prime example. I completed in less than 8 hours a task that can take me up to a day and a half when I work in the office.

I live for the time when we come into the office only on days we have face to face meetings and stay home the rest of the time.

I spent the day today working from home.

When I work from home I toss my laptop on an old desk and roll back and forth between it and my personal PC.

Today I set up my office to accommodate both.

It is hard to believe that everything in the photos’s was already in the room.

Now, if I could only put the same effort into my sites…

Today was not my typical Monday.

Monday in and of itself can be pretty hectic, but today was 3x worse.

Normally I process weekly reports which takes me a good 6+ hours to do. Add to that two monthly reports that failed to run properly, the 4 that did run properly, and the elusive today is the first day of the year, get rid of the stuff from two years ago crap that I had to do, and you can guess what kind of mood I am in right now…

I want to go to bed but there is this 9 foot tall evergreen in the corner of my living room looming over me, begging to be set free out in the wild…

I want to relax, but there is a pile of toys and clothes that need to find a permanent home in the playroom or the closets; but not until the old ones have met their demise…

I will sleep when I am dead … LOL

I took care of the user with the problem and decided to stay up and work on a script I have been coding for what seems to be an eternity.

I won’t go into a lot of detail yet, but I think it is a fresh idea. A simple concept really. I am no Alex Tew, but I think I may be on to something… (I hope.)

I have dropped about 150 EntreCards so far today. As well as placed a few ads.

It is now almost 10:30 and I really need to think about breakfast and spending some family time with the wife and kids.

I just finished a very interesting week for work. As many of you know I was instructed to work from home due to the G20 Summit being in Pittsburgh this week.

I have honestly always wanted to work from home. I enjoy working at my pace without the distraction of other people.

That is not to say that I don’t like working with people I just have my preferences.

Anyway…

I enjoyed waking up early and working in my home office in silence. Not hearing the music from the cube next to me, or other office distractions.

I was able to get my focus back. I have slowly been losing it over the past few months. With new job requirements and all.

In my opinion I was more productive this week. Not only at work related activities, but also with my personal coding and work around the house.

I did lose the hour long commute each way so I gained 10 hours this week .

I hope I can carry my new found focus back into the workplace.
