Yeah it’s been a while. Aside from the couple of not so subtle hints about my birthday wish…

Anywho, here I am…

I just want to tell everyone how amazing God is.

I know some of you will stop reading now, but I hope you stick around. This is one of those stories that to me provides proof for the naysayers!

It is a simple tale, one with little suspense and even less humor…

The family and I went out on Sunday. I had to stop to see a client (http://www.bloodybuddyfightgear.com) about some things so for the first time in the history of my business, I took my family along. We spent an hour or so there and went on to have dinner. Time ran short so we went straight to church after dinner.

After church, we went home and before opening the door we smelled an odd odor. I opened the door and was hit in the face with the smell of burning wire or “hot electric” as I kept calling it. I immediately ran through the house looking for the source of the smoke.

I could not find anything upstairs so I opened the basement door and was again hit in the face with 2X more smoke and smell than when I had first entered the house. I ran into my office and unplugged nearly every item I could get to, then into the washroom and did the same with the freezer and washer.

Next I ran over to the breaker box and as best as I could examined them – nothing looked tripped but the smoke was pretty dense so I could not tell for sure.

We opened the basement door and the windows and doors upstairs in an attempt to let the smoke out. As it cleared up, it became apparent that there was no fire, only the smoke.

I called the a friend from the fire department who came up and we traced the source to the furnace. They could tell by the smell when they got to the door.

We opened the furnace and were amazed at what we saw (pictures later sorry). The entire inside had burnt to a crisp. There is no reason why it did not burn down the entire house.

The furnace man came yesterday and told me that there was no reason for it to have stopped in the furnace. He looked at the furnace and simply shook his head in amazement.

I believe that GOD allowed the furnace to burn up but not the house because the furnace needed replaced. It was not operating badly, not was it in any noticeable need of repair. I think it was the source of my newly developed headaches and vision problems… I.E. I believe it was putting out carbon monoxide.

I believe this NOW due to what the furnace man said. He heard my wife and I talking about the fact that our son was complaining of vision problems and headaches and how funny it was that I had just gotten glasses based on the same symptoms.

He (furnace guy) said that those symptoms were common to carbon monoxide which could have been caused by the furnace. That the furnace could appear to be fine, but still emit it. I asked him about my Carbon Monoxide detector and he just laughed. He said that they are not always accurate and that also like smoke detectors, people tend to forget to check the batteries in them (of which I believe I am guilty)

(New batteries have been installed… back to the post…)

Therefor I believe that GOD allowed the furnace to burn up without taking my house with it.

The insurance people have been amazing as well. They put us in a hotel lastnight and told the furnace guy whatever he needs to do to make our house right, Do It! – I really have to say they are “on my side.”

So, thank you furnace guy; thank you insurance people; and most of all thank you GOD for protecting my family.
