Christmas is coming so much to do

Filed Under (Random) by Joby on 26-11-2008

Christmas is always a busy time of year for our family. It used to mean traveling to my wife’s Grandmother’s house in Ohio, just to turn around and come home the next day and visit my mom and then off to her Aunt’s and then finally to her Grandparent’s here in town.

By the end of the two day jaunt, we were exhausted.

With the family getting bigger (and even bigger soon) we have decided to keep our travels local but that does not make the season any less busy.

There are still gifts to buy
Cards to mail
People to visit
and so on…

The church makes some of our Christmas card giving pretty easy though. We set up tables with little gift boxes with each families name on them. This saves us in both postage and time. One of the couples in our Church always seems to have things all figured out. They have two teenage daughters, and like 5 dogs or something. Anyway, they always have the best Christmas Photo Cards.

My wife has always liked the idea of putting a photo of our kids (or the family) on a Christmas card. This year we actually took the photo :)

I am going to have her visit Christmas Cards Direct. They have over 100 different designs so I am sure she will have fun choosing the one she wants to use. She can upload the picture she wants to use and follow the easy steps and have our cards ready in minutes. Sure beats printing and folding and all that stuff when doing them at home!

Anyway – I need to go pack for Cancun. Maybe we will change the photo we have already chosen for one of us on the beach :)

Peace

I have completed Tier I training

Filed Under (Random) by Joby on 20-11-2008

Yesterday marked the end of my Tier I training at work.

I have been spending one week a month for the past 4 months attending a very eclectic range of classes.

I have spent time learning about all sorts of business related topics. I can now write an email that you WILL read ’cause it is short and to the point. I can now determine how to speak to you based on your personality type and indicators you give me via your body language. You know all the stuff that will make me ‘Super Manager’ some day. I know that sounds synical, but I really do mean that if I am able to put all of this information to use in my career, I really can be a great manager.

Over the past four months, I have created friendships with people from all parts of the Steel Making process. I met people who work in the office setting and people who spend their days creating the product that keeps this company running. This has helped me in my partiular job because I now have a better understanding of where the places I grant access to are and why the access is needed.

After the class was over, my manager sat down with me and we had a short discussion about the program. He asked me how I felt now that it was all over. I told him I really enjoyed it and I hoped it would be available to other new comers in the future. He stated that he has already seen an improvement in my work style and ethic and he feels that having me participate in the program was a valuable investment to our group and to the company. That really helped me to get out of bed this morning.
