As promised in my previous post, I will now willingly talk about the fact that I have quit smoking.
You can see a rather generic counter at the end of this and all postings keeping an up to the minute count of days since my last cigarette.
HOW DID YOU DO IT?
Well, I simply decided I did not want to smoke any more; That was the EASY part. The hard part was actually following through with it. I made the first step when I got into my car on Friday morning.
My normal morning routine would consist of getting in the car and driving to work. I would stop at the first gas station along the way and either fill my gas tank and buy a pack of smokes, or just buy the smokes. I would then drive to McDonalds and get breakfast for the day.
Well on Friday 9-12-2008, I stopped for gas, but did not buy cigarrettes. I had just opened the pack I had the night before so I knew I would make it to work – during work – the ride home – and have one or two for after the kids went to bed… When I got home from work I had ONE left…
I chose the weekend for a number of reasons:
- I smoke less on weekends
- I NEVER smoke in front of my kids
- We had a busy weekend planned
I also knew that the work week to follow was scheduled training for me so I would be much more relaxed.
My next hurdle will be an actual work week.
I have a two day DR test on Monday and Tuesday so I will be too busy to really think about it so the true test will be Wednesday… But by then I will be nearly 2 weeks along…
