OK
Those who know me know I am not much of a gamer.
I mostly play games like Myst and Riven or such…
My 7 year old son got a PS2 for Christmas and in turn, I received the aforementioned Guitar Hero game.
So that said I cannot hold back the excitement of my being given “Play With Me” as an Encore song while playing the medium difficulty version.
I had been told that the song was on the game but had not yet seen it come up on mine. So, when it did and the game asked me 3 separate times if I really wanted to play it I got more nervous than when Windows asks me if I really want to delete something
So when the song started and the crowd was screaming and the fret board appeared I was sweating.
You see when I was younger I purchased a Washburn KC40. It looked exactly the same as the one Nuno Bettencourt had in the pictures all through Guitar Magazine. I thought I was the man with that guitar in my hand until I actually played it. I did ok for myself but it did not ever sound like Nuno.
Ok back to the crowd and the lights and the upcoming notes…
The beginning went pretty well I thought. I was really expecting much worse, so I let my guard down slightly… BIG MISTAKE…
The notes came like a blinding flurry. I hit and strummed and leaned and bounced all about in front of my television. I was so happy to hear the words “Jack and Suzie sitting in a tree” cause I got a second (IF THAT) to reposition my fingers… then came the fun… Up and down the fret keys like I had OCD. Back and forth and back and forth….
Finally the song ended and my character was lifted into the air as if being abducted by an alien. I was worried cause I had not yet seen my score. I feared the Guitar Gods were gonna pummel my animated me to the ground for even attempting to play such a song.
Then it happened. The score, my FIRST score ever for “Play With Me”
86% with 47 notes in a row
Not very climactic for you the reader, but about 10 times higher than I could have ever imagined it would be.
